Animals Reacting to Mirrors

Watching animals react to their reflections is both amusing and enlightening. Elephants, one of the few self-aware animals, use mirrors to inspect unseen body parts. Bears react with surprise, showcasing their cautious nature.

Lions sense something unusual with their reflections and remain curious. Dolphins recognize themselves in mirrors as early as six months old. Dogs, relying on scent, quickly lose interest. Squirrels, being territorial, often attack their reflections. Monkeys and gorillas show varied reactions, from aggression to fascination.

Some animals, like pigs, manta rays, and magpies, exhibit self-recognition. Others, like octopuses and leopards, find mirrors confusing. These encounters highlight the diverse behaviors and instincts of different species, offering a fascinating glimpse into their world.
